1. Am I chasing a title, a paycheck, or a location?
Be honest. Your why matters — and it shapes how you show up.
Know what you're solving for before you start: is this move about your future, your finances, or your family?
2. What’s my runway — financially and emotionally?
The average executive search can take 6+ months.
Do you have consulting income or a stopgap plan to stabilize cash flow? If not, you’re playing defense.
3. Do I have monetizable skills or a side hustle?
If you’re in between roles, how can you generate income and build credibility now?
Advisory work, teaching, fractional leadership — short-term execution builds long-term momentum.
4. Did I leave my last role because of “culture” or “values”?
If that’s a pattern, pause. Sometimes, the issue isn’t alignment — it’s communication, expectations, or flexibility.
Culture conflicts are often solvable, but only with self-awareness.
5. Have I mastered reading the room?
Success at the top requires emotional intelligence and agility. Can you adapt your tone, timing, and presence in real-time? This isn’t optional — it’s essential.
6. How strong is my perception and portrayal?
Are you seen as ready — or just saying you are? Your LinkedIn, résumé, and communication style should reflect where you’re going, not just where you’ve been.
7. Do I need a new job — or a new mindset?
Sometimes the friction isn’t with your role. It’s with your energy, structure, or discipline. Fix that first. Then decide if it’s time to move.
